A Brief History of Reiki
Reiki was discovered by Dr. Usui in the early 1900's.
Until recently there has been much controversy over the way in which Usui 'found' Reiki.
From his Memorial Monument in Japan, we now know more about him.
According to this, after he grew up he travelled to Europe, America and China to study. One day he went on a spiritual journey where he fasted and meditated for 21 days.
During the morning of his last day he saw a ball of light comingtowards him; it hit him in the forehead and he was flooded with the understanding of the Reiki healing method.
He returned home, healing himself and others as he went. He then moved to a different area and founded a learning society to teach and practice Reiki. Many people came there for healing and guidance. He taught others to use and teach Reiki and from this beginning, the growth of Reiki was born.
Reiki has grown and changed over the years and there are many different names for Reiki. There are also many differences of opinion about attunements and money as you will find out if you read books about Reiki.
'real respect for Reiki must come from appreciating the healing value it has and not from what one has paid for it'
William Lee Rand
'having different kinds of Reiki creates a point of interest between healers and opens the door for us to learn and exchange with each other, thus creating a stronger bond of love and respect.'
William Lee Rand
